Geoff Shorten joined WesternOne on February 19, 2008 in conjunction with WesternOne’s acquisition of Deerfoot Equipment Rentals located in Calgary, Alberta. Since 2008, he has increased WesternOne Rentals and Sales locations from 6 to 15 locations across BC and Alberta, and was instrumental in completing WesternOne Inc.’s acquisitions, including SureFire Propane Ltd., Davis Heater Service Ltd., and Onsite Rentals. In July 2010, Geoff was appointed Chief Operating Officer, and in February 2013, he added the title of President to better reflect his strategic and operational role at WesternOne.
Michael Barone joined the WesternOne team in 2011. With over 14 years of operational experience in the equipment rental industry, Michael has developed a deep understanding of all aspects of the business. During his time with WesternOne Michael has been involved in many successful key projects and is now working toward his Executive Masters in Business Administration with Simon Fraser University. Currently, Michael is the Vice President of Aerial Operations.
Stirling McArthur holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Brock University and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Calgary. He has over 20 years of HR and operational experience in the rental industry, and was part of the management team that grew Stephenson’s Rental Services to over 50 locations nationally, taking the company public in 2005. He joined WesternOne in 2011 as the Manager, Human Resources, later adding Safety, Marketing & Service Quality to his portfolio. Stirling has been responsible for the Heat Division since 2014 and was the creator of WEDGE.
A Certified General Accountant, Nicholas Ehizojie joined WesternOne in 2008, and is responsible for periodic financial reporting, internal controls design and monitoring, budgeting and all other aspects of finance and accounting. Nicholas holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Financial Economics from Gothenburg University (Sweden), and possesses over 10 years’ experience in finance and operational roles, including business consulting, public practice and operations analyses. Nicholas is on the Presidents’ and Deans’ honor rolls at Mount Royal University (Calgary) for outstanding academic achievement.
Gabriel graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations, while playing NCAA Division 1 baseball as a left-handed pitcher. After graduating, he moved to Calgary and has called it home ever since. Because of his passion for business and people, he started off his career working in Recruitment and Human Resources. With every new professional challenge, he was exposed to other key Corporate functions such as Environmental Health and Safety, Training, Immigration, among others, in several industries such as Engineering, Oil and Gas, Retail, and now Equipment Rentals/Construction Services. WesternOne has been a great experience that has given him the opportunity to learn from the very best – he believes WesternOne truly embodies the spirit of Expertise at Work in everything they do.
Prior to his career at WesternOne, Byron spent the better part of a decade at Superior Propane in a variety of roles across the country from Market Manager and Regional Ops Manager in Ontario to National Sales Analyst and Systems Analyst at their head office in Calgary.
Currently as the Director of IT, his team works very closely with all areas of the organization to provide support with existing processes and finding opportunities to bring efficiencies and increased customer service to both internal and external customers. Sometimes this means introducing or building entirely new systems for us. Some of these systems include our purchase order approval system, bulk fuel delivery system and providing enhanced reporting capabilities for all roles at WesternOne. Our mantra within the IT Team is: Work Smarter, not Harder.
Harold Griffin joined the WesternOne team in September 2014 as part of WesternOne’s acquisition of Enerbuilt Technologies. He is a Professional Mechanical Engineer with a background in design and management and has extensive experience in the oil & gas service sector, previously in the drilling and service rig sector with Precision Drilling for 15 years and the flameless heater service sector for 7 years. In these roles, Harold focused on product development and improvement as well as maximizing asset utilization for the operational team. He now supports the WesternOne team as Director of Engineering.
Starting as a service technician in the propane and gas industry 25 years ago, Joe Alexander grew his career into sales, management and co-ownership of Sure-Fire Propane Ltd. He joined the WesternOne team in October 2008, through acquisition, in the capacity of VP Operations for the Edmonton location. Joe now holds dual roles at WesternOne - Director, Fuel Services; and Regional Manager Heat, Power, and Fuel Services for Southern Alberta.
Over 20 years ago, Darran started out as a heavy-duty service technician in Scotland. He is a certified Heavy-Duty Mechanic (Journeyman) and holds an HNC in Mechanical Engineering. Over the years Darran has broadened his career into management. He joined the WesternOne team in April 2009, through acquisition of On Site Equipment. Throughout his 15-year career in rentals, Darran has held several positions, including, Service Manager, Branch Manager, Regional Manager and now enjoys his current position, Director of Operations for all our Aerial branches.
Kristen Hallberg joined the WesternOne team in September 2014 as part of WesternOne’s acquisition of Enerbuilt Technologies. Kristen has years of equipment management experience in the infrastructure construction industry. Kristen excelled Oil & Gas and Major Project divisions by focusing on creating value for the customer and supporting the team, which has excelled her career to be Director of Major Projects & Business Development at WesternOne.
